New to paddling? Let CCA teach you how!
This is a beginner class, designed to familiarize students with equipment and the basics of kayaking. We stress safety, knowledge of the river, and basic skills. While we teach proper wet-exit techniques, and the fundamentals of the Eskimo roll, we do not spend a large portion of the time on rolling.
We do not provide equipment. CCA is a nonprofit organization committed to conservation, education and the promotion of safe and fun boating activities. rental information call Springriver at 301-881-5694. Be sure to tell them you are taking the CCA class. A weekend rental will probably cost $40 to $50. Note that other companies may also rent equipment. You should have rental reservations in place for the following weekend. At rental, you will be provided with all the proper equipment. If you do not have a car rack, foam blocks are available as substitutes.
We will spend the first part of Saturday learning in flat water, and advance to moving water and a trip down the river by the end of the weekend.
If you have further questions or would like to reserve a spot in a class please call Charlie Duffy at 703-938-3949. Because the kayak classes fill quickly you MUST CALL THE COORDINATOR before you register to ensure there is room in the class.
