We are a kayak and canoe club whose main purpose is to unite persons interested in paddling the Potomac River Basin and adjacent watersheds

About CCA

The Canoe Cruisers Association of Greater Washington, DC, founded in 1956, has over 200 members from Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia. We are a kayak and canoe club whose main purpose is to unite persons interested in paddling the Potomac River Basin and adjacent watersheds.

The CCA promotes:

  • Kayaking and Canoeing Skills and Safety Instruction
  • River and Lakes Conservation
  • Canoe and Kayak Competitive Racing

Through a core of dedicated volunteers we do the following:

  • Promote water safety and improvement of paddling skills through formal instruction
  • Wide range of paddling classes for beginner and novice paddlers
  • Clinics to help experienced paddlers advance their skills
  • River safety and rescue classes for the paddling community
  • Conservation, river access, river cleanup, and forest conservation programs
  • Promote paddling as a competitive sport through the sponsorship of races, competitive events, and training
  • Support of the U.S. Olympic Whitewater Team
  • Promote activities that help disadvantaged children experience the joys of paddling
  • Picnics, swap meets and socials
  • Bimonthly newsletter, the 'Cruiser' and the annual handbook, the 'Roster'
  • Comprehensive web site with many resources
  • Discounts at participating retailers

Take a look around and see all the kayaking and canoe stuff we have to offer. Whether you are new to the sport or have been paddling for years, we think our club can offer you something that you will want to join us.
